Senior goodbye: Mason McFarland

Dear Archbishop Carroll community,

Although this journey has been long and difficult after COVID, hybrid, etc., we’re finally at the finish line. After doing four years here, being a part of this community is an honor and a blessing. Despite not knowing anyone going to Carroll and it being 40 minutes away from home, Carroll still managed to turn into my second home, where I can learn, have fun and, overall, be comfortable.

As a senior who has almost graduated high school, I have some advice for juniors who will soon be seniors. Firstly, enjoy your last year of high school. It’s a year filled with many memorable moments, and it’s important to make the most of it. Participate in school events, attend sporting events, and spend time with your friends. Secondly, start thinking about your future. Whether you plan on going to college, entering the workforce, or traveling, it’s important to start planning early. Research different colleges, scholarships, and job opportunities and get your recommendations as soon as possible. Thirdly, stay focused on your studies. Senior year can be challenging, but it’s important to stay motivated and work hard. Finally, cherish the memories made. Senior year is a time to create lasting memories with friends and family. Take lots of pictures, write in a journal, and savor every moment.

I can’t believe I’m almost done. This goodbye is a bittersweet moment that marks the end of a chapter and the beginning of a new one. It’s a time to reflect on the memories made with the Carroll community, the lessons learned from faculty, and the friendships formed. It’s a time to say goodbye to the people and places that have become a second home. At this time I feel grateful for the opportunities and experiences that have shaped us into who I am today. Though it can be difficult to say goodbye, I must remember that the future is bright and full of endless possibilities. For that, I say my final thank you.

Love,

Mason McFarland
