Senior goodbye: Angelina Lugo
June 13, 2023
Dear Carroll,
First off, it’s been fun, but eventually, the fun must come to an end, sooner or later.
I came to Carroll because I went to an open house event and immediately felt like this is where I should go. My middle school wasn’t the best. It had no extracurriculars, no sports teams, and cycles of teachers leaving or coming back. I wanted to get away from that kind of environment and that’s why part of me is grateful that I went to Carroll; it gave me what my past schools could not.
When I told classmates in middle school that I got into a private school, they knew I’d be the only one going and would probably have no one to talk to. For the most part, that wasn’t true. I managed to take initiative, make friends, and get to know people who came from a multitude of backgrounds. Carroll gave me a new home, perspective, friends, and meaningful connections that I’ll never forget. I hope it’ll be the same for those attending or just now enrolling at Carroll.
To the underclassmen: don’t stress too much about high school. Take things one day at a time and try not to always have your mind on the future. The present has so many things to offer if you let it. Also, easier said than done, but be yourself. Indulge in your own style and individuality, because it’s definitely there. Know that hard work pays off for something and do your absolute best. Also, there is no “messing up” your high school experience because it won’t be perfect; simply make the most of it. Another thing: do whatever makes you feel comfortable and go at your own pace; be sure to have fun too. One more thing: high school isn’t everything. Don’t take it too seriously, but don’t downplay it either.
Sincerely,
Angelina Lugo ‘23
