Senior goodbye: Bridget Robinson

Dear Archbishop Carroll,

While I know this school isn’t perfect by any stretch of the word, there are definitely things here that make it better than other high schools. I want to leave this school with some of the things I have learned as I went through four years here.

One idea that has been drilled into the brain of every student at Carroll is to get involved. As a naïve freshman, I thought this was just something the school and upperclassmen said. I never thought there was any truth to this statement until I actually got involved. The first club I joined was Best Buddies and it changed my whole perspective. I saw that getting involved actually did make my experience better. I wasn’t just going to school and dreading it. I actually looked forward to certain things. This made me feel more included in the Carroll community even as a freshman.

The second thing I want to tell you is don’t be scared to talk to people. Since I went to public school, no one from my middle school was coming along with me. On the first day of school, I was in the homeroom without a single friend. A girl in front of me started a conversation about uniforms. That led to me asking her if she wanted to eat lunch together. I never would have thought to start a conversation with her but it led to a four-year friendship. People are probably just as nervous as you are, so don’t be scared to start a conversation.

The last thing I would implore you to do is talk to your teachers. The teachers at Carroll are so nice and understanding. If you are having trouble or need help, just go to them. They want you to succeed, so they will do everything in their power to help you. If you need more time on an assignment, all you really have to do is explain the situation and they will work with you. Teachers wouldn’t be here if they didn’t want to be so use them to your advantage.
