The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game Seven of the National League Championship Series, ending their playoff run. The final score of the game at Citizen Bank Park, the Phillies’ home field, was 4-2 D-Backs.
The Phillies were heavily favored to win and make their second World Series appearance in two years, according to CBS Sports. They took an early lead in the NLCS’, having a 2-0 lead over the D-Backs at their home field. They traveled to Arizona, where they lost the two games, tying the series. The Phillies were able to steal a win in Arizona before heading home to the Bank, reclaiming their lead.
The Phillies were handed another loss on Monday night forcing a Game Seven. This was the first Game Seven the Phillies had ever played in during the franchise’s 140 years. The Diamondbacks, however, competed in Game Seven of the 2001 World Series, and came out with a win, according to USA Today.
The Phillies were not able to put it away and fell to the D-backs 4-2. There were a number of things that contributed to the D-Backs being sent to the World Series. Arizona’s pitching, hitting and defense during Game seven were all key factors in their NLCS win. As for the Phillies, in terms of Game Seven, nothing really fell into place. There big hitter, Trea Turner, Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber weren’t on, and Arizona’s hitters were able to capitalize off of pitches from all of the Phillies bullpen. In addition, Craig Kimbrel blew games three and four and is taking a lot of the blame for the Phillies loss, according to ESPN.
Overall the Phillies had another great playoff run, but, unfortunately, came up short of another World Series.

That game’s results were very unexpected. The Phillies did well while they were still able to qualify for the World Series.
