Community Service Corps (CSC) has started its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and is accepting donations.
The food drive is open now and it ends on November 16.
Students, faculty and parents can participate. In their English classes, students can donate money, individual food items or gift cards. Families can also Adopt-A-Family and create a Thanksgiving basket. The baskets are due to the main office by November 20.
The donations can include a frozen turkey, gravy, baking pan, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, yams, corn, green beans and reusable bags.
“Our goal is to provide 180 families in the area with a Thanksgiving dinner,” CSC moderator Mrs. Julia Young said. “It is one of the most important drives that CSC runs during the school year.”
This is the first major service project of the year for CSC, a service club that allows students to get involved with the local community. All students are encouraged to join the group.
The next project that CSC will host is a Christmas toy drive. CSC also holds smaller events throughout the year, such as making cards and gift bags for nuns or children in need.
“I enjoy being hands-on when working with the community,” senior Sofia Cunicelli said. “I can’t wait to be able to do more this year, like delivering the food to local parishes.”
Madison Mitchell agreed.
“In the past I collected the cans and other goods for the food drive,” said Mitchell, a senior. “ The Thanksgiving and the Christmas drives that we do at Carroll are always the most meaningful to me because they help so many people in need.”
