Archbishop Carroll’s bowling team prepared for the season last week with a scrimmage against Plymouth-Whitemarsh and ended up taking the L.
Three starters missed the Nov. 30 contest, and the team fell behind quickly in the first game. Seniors Marco Petroccia and Jesse Ventre did their best to pick up the slack, with Petroccia bowling a 231, and Ventre bowling a 171. Still, even with these high scores from the boys, the absence of the starters was too much to overcome. While the Pats ended up losing the first game by only 40 pins, PW ran away in the next two games, and secured the win for all three games.
“The match was tough,” junior Jake Law said. “This is my first year bowling, so I’m just trying my best and working on improving my game.”
Ventre found a silver lining in the loss.
“That got us ready for next week,” Ventre said. “With all of our players back for next week’s game against Archbishop Ryan, we’ll be ready to bowl.”
Next week the Pats play the season’s first real match, against Ryan at Wynnewood Lanes. Carroll will have all key players available.
Junior Jacob Cooper said he was looking forward to it.
“I can’t wait until next week,” Cooper said. “This was not a bad way to start the season, and it got us warmed up for the great season we are about to have.”
