Archbishop Carroll’s girls swim team defeated Cardinal O’Hara last week.
O’Hara’s swim team is known for its outstanding times and swimmers. Nonetheless, Carroll girls defeated their Delco rivals 52-37 at the meet, which was Dec. 7 at Widener University in Chester.
Carroll’s boys lost to O’Hara’s boys, 54-37, although the boys made a comeback when freshman Augustino Russo, sophomore Chris Dellaratta, freshman Gio Pavese and freshman Owen Gallagher won the 200m relay.
“It feels so good to at least have a win early in the season,” sophomore Brennan Donohue said.
The girls team had multiple wins, which led to juniors Annabel Cook and Maddie Formia qualifying for district competition. Cook won the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke. Formia won the 500m freestyle and 400m freestyle relay.
“This year being my first year it was so fun to see the team get excited about the other events for other teammates,” senior Gianna Toland said.
Coach Josh Patota sounded pleased with the team’s progress so far.
“Glad to see such a strong start to the season,” Patota said. “I hope to carry the momentum going forward.”
