Archbishop Carroll is gearing up for its first winter dance in over four years. The casual and festive “Snowball” on Feb. 3 promises to be a night of merriment for students to make up for the seniors’ missed homecoming during their COVID-restricted freshman year.
Senior Sarah Barrera-Cruz, one of the Snowball’s key organizers, shared her excitement about the event.
“I remember my sister attending the last winter dance before COVID happened, and it was always a highlight,” Barrera-Cruz said. “We wanted to bring back that joy and create lasting memories for our senior year.”
The dance will mark the grand finale of Catholic Schools Week. The event will happen from 6 to 9 p.m. in the West Gym. Tickets, priced at $15 each, can be purchased online only via the school’s website. The due date for ticket purchases is Friday.
All Carroll students — not just seniors — are welcome to the dance, but no one from outside the school can come.
“For dances to take place safely, we need to ensure that we have the proper number of chaperones,” said Mr. William Gennaro, the principal. “At the time the dance was presented as an idea, we could only ensure that enough chaperones would be available for our students.”
Mr. Christopher Fryberger, assistant principal for student life, explained the administration’s decision to exclude outside dates further.
“We’re using the smaller gym, and we wanted to make sure we had enough space,” said Mr. Fryberger. “Also, due to the timing and the quick organization, there wasn’t enough time to manage permission slips for outside dates.”
Mr. Fryberger outlined the conduct requirements for attending the dance.
“For a conduct grade, you have to be passing,” said Mr. Fryberger. “Any student below a 70 for conduct is technically not permitted to attend the dance.”
