During Catholic Schools Week, Archbishop Carroll student council is encouraging the community to help furry friends this winter by donating items to a local animal center.
The drive starts on Jan. 29 and ends on Feb. 2.
Student council wants cat and dog beds, cat carriers, heating pads, pet thermometers, cat and dog treats, cat scratchers, cat and dog toys, paper towels, puppy pads, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes and spray, hand soap, dish soap, laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. Students must drop off any items in the library. All donated items will be sent to the Providence Animal Center in Media, Pennsylvania.
The animal shelter is especially low on stock in necessary items such as paper towels and cleaning supplies.
Mrs. Christina Mulligan, the student council moderator, said that they wanted to give animals a better chance at life this winter.
“During the winter a lot of shelters are full and do not have room to help any other animals,” said Mrs. Mulligan. “I’d love for animals to have a chance and receive their forever home.”
Senior Sarah Barrera-Cruz, the student council vice president, agreed.
“They are a great organization,” said Barrera-Cruz. “We hope to have an abundance of donations and to keep working with the Providence Animal Shelter in future projects.”
There are many events and drives going on during Catholic Schools Week, but students are taking notice of this one.
“This is definitely a unique drive and I’m happy that we are going out of the way to help animals,” said senior Madison Mitchell. “Oftentimes animals get neglected and as someone who loves animals, especially cats, I’m happy to see the community helping them out.”
