Archbishop Carroll put up a fight Tuesday swimming against Little Flower and Roman Catholic at Saint Joe’s Prep. The Carroll girls tied Little Flower, 44-44. The Carroll boys, however, beat Roman, 54-17.
This swim meet was a tri-meet. Three teams were swimming against each other.
One highlight of the meet was senior Gianna Toland winning the 50 and the 500 free heat.
“I was way too nervous to swim my first 500, but as soon as I got in the water I was completely fine,” Toland said. “I am very proud to see my times.”
Sophomore Brennan Donohue won the 100 backstroke. Also, both the boys and girls won the 400 freestyle relay.
Junior co-captain Maddie Formica explained that she was nervous for the relay.
“I was nervous how the last relay would go, especially because it had been a close win for every event, but I am happy to see how we succeeded in winning. I was very happy” Formica said.
Many swimmers were able to drop time to qualify in their events for district competition. Senior Gracie Brogan dropped 10 seconds in the 200 freestyle. Sophomore Erin Goodridge dropped 2 seconds in the 50 freestyle.
This meet was the first out of three swim meets last week for Archbishop Carroll.
“This is the first meet of a tough week; I am glad to see a solid start,” Coach Josh Patota said.
