Dear Archbishop Carroll High School,
It is the beginning of an end and the days have already begun ticking downwards. Attending Archbishop Carroll has changed me for the better, and now, I am leaving a different person than I was when I first walked through the front doors. I was able to come out of my comfort zone, do things I never imagined myself doing, and find the motivation for school. Some of my best and favorite memories from Carroll would be starting out on the track team freshman and sophomore year, then morphing into a theater nerd performing in both “Footloose” and “James and the Giant Peach.” The Carroll dances will also always hold a place in my heart as I made some of the best memories on the “night of nights.” I would like to thank all my teachers, coaches, and directors for assisting in my growth not only as a student but a person as well.
My best advice to anyone would be to get involved here at Carroll. Before junior year, I was not involved in much besides just running laps on the track team. It was not until my sophomore year that I decided I wanted to explore other options. I wound up auditioning for the school’s musical, “Footloose,” which grew to be my new favorite hobby. I was not only able to find my closest friends, but I also found my chance in the spotlight and my love for the stage. Archbishop Carroll Theater Society became my second family and there is no other community like Carroll’s that makes you feel welcomed as they do.
To the rising seniors, do not take your senior year for granted. Your final year will fly by in the blink of an eye, so make sure to enjoy every second. It is also never too early to start on college applications. I did mine over the summer and it made this year way less stressful. On top of applications, you also want to make sure to ask your teachers to write you letters of recommendation in advance. This is so they can have plenty of time to work on them prior to approaching deadlines. The days may feel long, but the weeks will fly by in a heartbeat. Enjoy your time here while it lasts before Carroll becomes nothing but a distant memory.
Sincerely,
Andrew Doorly
