Dear Archbishop John Carroll School, Athletics and friends,
About four years ago, I began a new chapter of my life when I walked through the doors of Archbishop Carroll. I was scared and nervous to be entering high school, but there was a sense of excitement. I had already met some of my closest friends to this day in August of 2020 when the pre-season of soccer had begun. We all felt the same about starting high school, so that was a relief that it wasn’t just me feeling those emotions. My freshman year was mostly a blur. We were still dealing with COVID-19 and had to be on a hybrid schedule for that entire year. Time went by fast and it was the beginning of my Sophomore year of high school. The whole school was now back in the building and it felt like high school was actually starting. I enjoyed my sophomore year but nothing will ever beat my junior year of high school. I believe this is when I considered Carroll my second home.
Junior year of high school holds some of my favorite and most memorable memories. This was the year I became more social with people in the school, whether it was underclassmen or upperclassmen. I joined the Track and Field team this year because my friend had convinced me just to come and do it for fun. I agreed and thought it would be just for fun, but after a while, it became something I was passionate about. I was second team all catholic both my junior and senior years. I plan on continuing to do track when I go to college next year. Without my friend or the Carroll Track Team, I probably wouldn’t have found something I enjoyed as much as throwing. Flag football was another spring sport I decided to participate in. It was the first year the sport had ever been played at Carroll and I had joined it for fun. I had a great time both of the years I played. The team felt like another family and the memories we all had together during games are something I’ll cherish.
My friends that I have met at Carroll are one of the main reasons why high school was enjoyable. All the memories we made and continue to make are why I’ll always smile whenever I remember the four years I spent at Carroll. I am thankful for all the fun we all had together and how they got me to step out of my comfort zone and do new things. They were the best part of high school and made every day worth it. From freshman year to now a few days before the end of the school year, they have been the best people I have met. Thank you Carroll for all the opportunities, friendships, and memories you have given me and for making my four years of high school good.
Sincerely,
Arianna Netzel
