Dear Mom and Dad,
I am writing this letter to both of you to thank you for everything you have done for me. I would not be here today without either of you being by my side. Having a perfect mother and father figure in my life has always been such a blessing. Not everyone gets to have such a perfect childhood as I did. Throughout my elementary and middle school years, you showed me how to make bonds and be myself. It was not easy being in a graduating class of 12 students, but I am so happy I had the opportunity to go there.
Realizing now that I am a senior in high school and going to college in a few months, I have got to look back and see how amazing my parents were. Mom, you have always gone out of your way to help everyone around you. As you have always told me, Nanny would say “You got a little gold star in God’s little black book.” This whole time you were telling me this, but you were the one who was getting those gold stars. Everyone around you has always been able to see how you shine so bright in this world, even when times are not always easy. Dad, you will always be my hero. Since I was a little girl, you have shown me how much a father can mean to someone. Whether you were fixing my toys, helping me with my volleyball serve, or even being a fun dad, you will never fail to put a smile on my face.
The University of Alabama has always been a college our family has loved, but I never thought I would be the one attending school there. Since I was born, I have never gone a day without seeing or just simply talking to you guys. I have put a lot of thought into moving twelve hours away or just staying close by. I have no idea how I am going to be able to say goodbye, but I know I will be receiving a FaceTime call every night. Thank you for never giving up on me.
Love,
Maryrita Swope
