Dear Carroll,
My time at Carroll was one of the best experiences of my life and something that I will never forget. My first time stepping into Carroll as a student was 3 months after Hallahan closed, and it scared me to the core. The idea of making new friends, meeting new teachers, and joining clubs terrified me. During sophomore orientation, I met someone who introduced me to the Archbishop Carroll Theater Society, ACTS. The theater at Carroll introduced me to many other opportunities and people that shaped me into who I am today.
During my first two shows here at Carroll, I learned to have the confidence to survive high school. Once I got the role of the Wicked Witch, I took my inner villain and used it to my advantage. I used the same confidence and self-love that my characters had and positively used them. By my senior year, I continued to do the shows, playing the villains and improving my acting skills. Even with broken mics, re-used wood from 10 years ago, and a breaking auditorium, the shows always amaze the audience. Being a part of something that brought so much joy to me, the other ACTS members, and the audience was such a fantastic experience.
Besides being a part of ACTS, the friends I have made here at Carroll will leave memories that will last a lifetime. Whether going to Six Flags, seeing a movie, shopping at the mall, or simply hanging out at someone’s house, the people I met at Carroll never failed to make a moment feel special. My friends surrounded me with love and constant support through all my hardships, as I did for them. Without the community I met at Carroll, I would not be the happy, loving, outgoing person I am today.
Love always,
Sophia (Fern) Burghezi
