Homecoming week arrives at Archbishop Carroll with traditions students expect, like dress down days, Mass, a pep rally, a powder puff game, a football game, and a dance. The week also includes something new — a theme: There is no place like home.
“Homecoming is the first opportunity for the student body to participate in or create that positive school culture for the school year,” said Mr. Christopher Fryberger, assistant principal for student services. “It’s also a new opportunity for transfers and the freshman class to really know what Carroll is all about.”
Staying true to homecoming tradition, student council planned dress down days for homecoming week. The poster listing the dress down day themes can be found near Room 200.
- Monday: Make yourself at home (Wear pajamas)
- Tuesday: Mass (School uniform required)
- Wednesday: Homies (Twins and trios match their outfits)
- Thursday: Home through the decades (Wear throwback apparel)
- Friday: Red vs. White (Seniors and sophomores wear red; juniors and freshmen wear white)
The president of student council said she is looking for everyone to embrace the dress down themes.
“I hope everyone participates and has more Carroll spirit throughout the year,” said Therese Laphen.
School spirit will be on display Friday during the pep rally, which is when the girls’ powder puff football game will happen. Spectators will find the senior players wearing black and junior players wearing red. The cheer squad will perform as well. Also during the pep rally, the homecoming court for St. Katherine School, an Archdiocese of Philadelphia high school for people with cognitive challenges that shares the Carroll campus, will be presented, as will the Carroll faculty homecoming court, and the winners announced. The senior homecoming court will be presented at the pep rally but the winners will be announced at the homecoming dance.
The homecoming varsity boys football game will be noon Saturday at Bishop Shanahan.
Lastly, the homecoming dance is at 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
“The school wide dance provides that opportunity for everyone to let loose for a night and bond with each other appropriately,” Mr. Fryberger said.”
