The Archbishop Carroll campus will include a new turf field, maybe as early as next fall, according to Dr. Tricia Scott, Carroll’s president of Archbishop Carroll.
“Turf field is on the horizon,” Dr. Scott said. “It’s happening. Whether I can make this happen by fall is the question.”
The field will be constructed where the football field is. It will be used for football, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, and flag football and will cost more than $1 million.
“It costs 1.6 million dollars to just put a turf field on, nothing else, not stands or an amazing stadium — $1.6 million just for the turf,” said Dr. Scott.
Two-thirds of the cost has been raised, and the goal is to raise the final third by January 15.
“My last third is probably going to be very difficult to raise,” Dr. Scott said. “We have a committee that’s made of alumni and board members and leadership and we are working together to finish this last third.”
If the money is raised on time, the new turf field will likely be completed next fall. If not, they will continue raising the money, but the field may not be ready until next winter, spring, or later.
“In my dreams, finished by September,” Dr. Scott said. “Reality, I don’t know.”
Despite how close she is to completing the fundraising, Dr. Scott is hesitant to talk about it too much.
“I’m afraid to say too much because previously this was promised to the Carroll community and it didn’t happen,” she said.
Dr. Scott said she an official announcement once the final third of the money is raised, and she is excited for the students to have a school that they can be proud of.
“If I can pull this off, this will be amazing in the same year that we’re building the wellness center,” she said.
