Senior night: the one night of the year where people come together and reminisce about their time at a certain place. Tuesday was that night for the Archbishop Carroll Lady Patriots basketball team.
“I’m so grateful for my coaches and my teammates are the best,” said senior Bridget Archbold. “I’m just so lucky to be a part of such a great program.”
The Lady Pats added to the celebration of senior night with a 37-34 win Tuesday against the Crusaders of Lansdale Catholic.
The girls got out to a slow start in the first quarter, only scoring five points to Lansdale’s eight. If they wanted to get this win on senior night, they would need to pick up the pace, and that they did.
The team came out of the first quarter firing and playing at a fast pace. The second quarter was quick but low scoring. It seemed that would be the theme for the rest of the game.
Olivia Nardi was able to break through in the second and third quarter, scoring six points on her final regular season game.
“It’s been a great four years,” said Nardi, a senior. “There are so many women who have been great leaders who have passed through and whom I’ve learned from. I love Carroll basketball and all the friends I’ve made.”
Nardi expressed a common theme throughout the night: a love not just for the game of basketball, but particularly for Archbishop Carroll basketball.
In the third quarter, the Lady Pats came out strong, going up seven points to bring the score to 21-14. The remainder of the third quarter was slow for the Patriots but strong for Lansdale, with Lansdale cutting Carroll’s lead to one point going into the fourth.
Carroll was able to come out better in the fourth quarter and go up by four with less than three minutes remaining. The Lady Patriots continued to put the foot on the pedal and would go ahead 34-31 with 24 seconds left. In the end, the Lady Patriots held on and defeated fourth seed Lansdale Catholic.
The Lady Pats will be in the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs as the No. 3 seed and will host a home game against West Catholic.
