While Archbishop Carroll’s lunch menu does feature some healthy options, the variety of clean food is limited.
Some Carroll students believe that the lack of variety in healthy meals stems from the fact that teenagers yearn for more processed foods.
“It’s definitely, like, proven that teenagers like junk food more than healthy food, so that’s probably why there’s more unhealthy food,” said student council member Julia Lopoten, a freshman.
Some students tend to stick to the same less-than-healthy meals every day in spite of the healthy cafeteria choices.
“My go-to order is definitely a buffalo chicken wrap and cookie,” said freshman student Emma Straface.
Freshman Joiee McFarlane has a fried go-to order.
“I usually buy nuggets and fries,” McFarlane said.
Some students had ideas for healthier cafeteria options in addition to the carrots-and-ranch-dressing snack.
“I really wish we had, like, smoothie bowls,” freshman Kelsey Eberz said.
Sophomore Meghan Shields advocated for some customization.
“I loved when we used to be able to make our own wraps instead of the ones in the fridge,” Shields said.
Carroll president Dr. Patricia Scott said she would like to see Aramark, the company that provides the school’s food service, provide healthier selections in the cafeteria, too.
“Yes, it would be beneficial to students to have healthier options,” Dr. Scott said. “I have spoken to Aramark, and they are working on it.”
