On May 23, “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” came out in theaters, ending nearly three decades of the Mission: Impossible franchise. As one of the most successful movie franchises in Hollywood, lots of fans have anticipated this moment, including students from Archbishop Carroll.
“Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” is an American action spy film directed by Christopher McQuarrie. The main villain of this story is “The Entity,” which is super-intelligent artificial intelligence. As “The Entity” became extremely advanced, it went rogue and has plans to destroy the world. Ethan Hunt, played by Tom Cruise, begins his impossible mission to stop this “Entity” and save the world.
The film takes place around the world, adding more tension and cinematic beauty to the story. From London to the North Pole to an aircraft carrier to South Africa, Hunt travels the globe and performs his last mission. Cruise performs all of Hunt’s stunts, such as diving into an underwater submarine, hanging from the wing of a flying airplane and skydiving.
Some Carroll students expressed excitement about the flick.
“I have been a fan of the Mission: Impossible series since I was in grade school,” said senior Alex Raker. “As soon as I saw the poster, I knew I had to see that movie immediately. And when I saw trailers and teasers, I knew that this movie will be the best Mission: Impossible movie ever.”
Cruise’s stunts were the draw for senior Jack Benner.
“I am not a really big fan of the Mission: Impossible movies, but I always thought Tom Cruise’s stunts were absolutely cool!” Benner said.
Cruise was the draw for sophomore Sam Kehoe, too.
“Since I was young, I just wanted to live life like Tom Cruise,” Kehoe said. “Whenever I saw Tom Cruise doing his cool stunts, I was always surprised by his bravery.”
