On June 4, Archbishop Carroll students will vote for student council president. To help students make their choice, each candidate answered three questions. The questions and the answers from each candidate (listed in alphabetical order) follow.
Candidate: Madison Freeman
1. What’s your unique quality or experience that sets you apart from any other candidates?
A unique quality that sets me apart from everyone else is that my presidency will be focused on the students. I feel as though if we plan on moving forward at Carroll and improving our community, the student body and their needs should be the main focus.
2. What are your promises for Carroll?
My promises for Carroll are to ensure that everyone’s voices are heard. If we can all work together as a school community, I know that this next school year will be one to remember for all the right reasons.
3. What’s the best one sentence or word that can describe you and your presidential campaign?
One sentence or word to describe me and my campaign would be driven, determined, and caring. I am determined and driven to succeed and put Carroll and its students first, and create an elevated experience for everyone at Carroll overall.
Candidate: Ryan Innes
1. What’s your unique quality or experience that sets you apart from any other candidates?
I don’t just talk about results—I deliver them. Through my time at Carroll, I have been taught well and I know how to lead, win, and make deals that benefit everyone. I don’t play the odds—I make them. I’ve been heavily involved in a great deal of Carroll life, from academics to athletics to student clubs, and I’ve succeeded because I lead with strategy, not slogans. That’s the difference—I don’t chase leadership; I establish it. But above all, what sets me apart is that I want to see both my school and my fellow students succeed together.
2. What are your promises for Carroll?
I promise to give all I got to bring Carroll back to greatness — not with empty words, but with action. More events, more unity, more school spirit, and especially more student voice at the table. I will fight to make this school a place where excellence is expected and fun is guaranteed. Like a great deal of successful people I have talked to, they don’t settle for average and I want to raise the bar.
3. What’s the best one sentence or word that can describe yourself and your presidential campaign?
Determined: the reason I pick that word is because this isn’t just a campaign—it’s a movement to turn Carroll into the powerhouse it’s meant to be.
Candidate: Ella Peticca
1. What’s your unique quality or experience that sets you apart from any other candidates?
Something that I believe makes me different is that I chose Carroll despite it being a family tradition to attend another Archdiocesan school. I chose Carroll for the diversity and the vast opportunities I believed I could have here and so far, I can confidently say I have had. I chose Carroll for reasons that have been proven true in my past three years here and I have a strong desire to be a part of other people’s reasons. I believe that Carroll is a special place and should be embraced in its most authentic way – as a truly diverse community with a place for everyone to express themselves. With that, my promise is to be a voice for EVERY PERSON that makes Carroll unique. I plan to embrace Carroll fully – to not only call attention to the winning teams or popular clubs but to bring light to new and improving things here at Carroll – such as our flag football team, which I am a proud member of. I plan to raise school spirit by bringing new ideas and even some old ones back to the table. I am mostly excited to incorporate new traditions and ultimately increase the energy of the day-to-day life here in our second home – some including the use of our new Wellness Center. I can also promise effective communication and a strong representation of the study body by working diligently with other members of the student council and faculty.
2. What are your promises for Carroll?
I would like to add that I am running for president because I will lead with genuine intention and passion – not for the label, the title of president, or for praise. Ultimately, I am running because I want what’s best for everyone in the Carroll community; as it truly is the place to be. As I stated before, I chose Carroll for reasons that have been proven true, I am more than determined to help others find their reason. With the support of the community as a whole, I can promise that I will embrace ALL aspects of the Carroll community, be an active voice for EVERYONE’S ideas, and most importantly help others recognize that they are not just another Carroll student to me – they make this place authentic, which I believe makes it stand out. I would say that my campaign is running on the basis that anyone can be up here running for this position, but my passion for this school and desire to embrace it is what makes me different.
3. What’s the best one sentence or word that can describe yourself and your presidential campaign?
I believe that it takes one special kind of person to run for a leadership role and get things done effectively, but another to do it with passion and genuine intention, which is who I promise to be – not only to represent Carroll and embody what it means to simply go here through leadership but for the benefit of everyone who is a part of this truly great community.
As Carroll students hear candidates’ promises and ideas, they have expressed their ideas about the election.
“I think it will be a fun election,” said sophomore Jimmy Murray. “I am excited to see what kind of speeches they’ll give us!”
Sophomore Sam Kehoe is interested in hearing the candidates’ speeches, too.
“I don’t know who I’ll vote for,” Kehoe said. “I’ll decide who I’ll vote for when I see their speeches.”
The student council election is not the only thing sparking excitement for junior Jeffrey Roth.
“I’m really excited for the student council election, but also excited for summer break,” Roth said. “We’ll see who will be elected.”
