During the summer, former Archbishop Carroll crew head coach Aislinn O’Brien left to coach at the Conshohocken Rowing Club. This news led to the question: Who will be the head coach for the 2025-2026 season?
This question was answered on the first day of crew practice when Jael Oladosu took the helm as the new head coach. Ms. Oladosu, a former classmate of fellow Carroll crew coach Stephanie McKenna, rowed back in high school for Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast.
“I’m thrilled to coach this sport with Steph,” Ms. Oladosu said. “We pushed each other to excellence on the water, and I know we’ll do the same with our athletes. Our experience and camaraderie will help our team reach new heights and make the Schuykill (River) shine.”
Ms. McKenna said she was glad Ms. Oladosu would be helping Carroll’s crew.
“Rowing with her back in high school was definitely memorable, and she’s giving similar advice we received back at Prendie,” Ms. McKenna said. “That’s the best part!”
Senior Christian Blake, who has rowed with Carroll crew since he was a sophomore, had accolades for Ms. Oladosu.
“I think our new coach is great!” Blake said. “She’s approachable, relatable, and definitely helpful. Sure, it is the beginning of the season, but she’s quick to provide helpful advice, and I like that.”
Under the new coach, Carroll crew’s first Learn To Row session will be Tuesday in the erg room at 2:30 pm. Those interested in rowing can expect a 15-minute interest meeting before getting to know the rest of the team and learning the basics. Then, the practice will take place from 4 to 6 pm.
