A new volleyball net system will be installed next summer in Archbishop Carroll’s East Gym after the girls volleyball team raised more than $14,000 for the project.
The net project is a joint effort among the athletic director’s team, volleyball coaches, and the volleyball booster club. The money for the system was raised in four weeks at the end of the summer. The system will be ready to go before the 2026 girls volleyball season begins.
“I’m excited about this new net system, and it will be a great way to start my senior year volleyball season,” said Katelyn Sinnot a junior on the varsity team. “It will also be effective in cutting down the time to set up the nets so we can focus more on developing our skills in practice.”
Carroll’s athletic director’s team decided to go with a system by R.J. McCarville Associates. The new in-ground system, which will allow the poles to be anchored in the floor to provide more stability and safety, will replace a portable system that was rolled in for each practice and game.
“I think the old net system affected our performance in games due to the lack of practice time; it’s good to know we won’t have to worry about taking 30 minutes out of practice setting up our net,” said Brooke Sadowski, a junior on varsity.
The in-ground system will be among the final touches of the renovations of the East Gym. The renovations include new paint, floors, banners and lights as well as bleachers that will be installed soon. The parents and friends of the school’s girls basketball team as well as the family and friends of Fran Lynam, who played basketball as a Carroll student and then later became a Carroll basketball coach before passing away last year, financed those renovations.
“I think it’s a great contribution and comparable to what basketball did, and the school really appreciates it,” Athletic Director Tom Quintois said of the new volleyball net system. “As an athletic director, I understand that it’s something that had to be done, and I’m excited to have it done for this group of girls.”
