My favorite memory at Archbishop Carroll would have to be the last football game I played. 

In recent memory, the Carroll football team has been lackluster. This year was different, though. 

Entering the last game of the season our record was 6-6. We had a chance to be the first Carroll team with a winning record in over a decade. 

We were facing off against Roman Catholic High School. Roman was a good team, so we had to bring our A-game. The game was being played the night before Thanksgiving. The team had never played a Thanksgiving game and we were very excited about it. 

One thing that I remember most was arriving at the field. When we first got there it was clear skies and you couldn’t see a cloud for miles. Not even 20 minutes later, the skies turned black with clouds. A storm was brewing in the sky — a foreshadowing of the game we were about to play. 

At the start of the game, it turned into a dogfight. Both team’s defenses wouldn’t give up any yards. 

In the fourth quarter, tensions were high between teams. There was a lot of trash-talking and even a fight broke out. We found ourselves up 15-7 late in the fourth. The whole game came down to which team wanted it more. 

In the end, we wanted it more. Our defense held the Roman offense at the 30-yard line to win the game. We won 15-7. Not a bad way to end my football career: The first Archbishop Carroll football team to have a winning record in over a decade.
