Stephen Gambone: Senior memory

Stephen Gambone

It was freshman year and Archbishop Carroll had a very big football opponent coming up. This opponent was St. Joseph Prep. Prep is known for its football program because it makes it to states almost every year. We knew as a team we all needed to come together for this game and have the best week of practice we had all year. You could tell by the way our football team practiced that we were determined and ready to make a statement in the leauge and be the underdogs. We would hear comments throughout the week, such as “They’re gonna crush you guys” or “do you really think you’re gonna win?” This gave us more motivation to do better and prove all those people wrong.

Friday night came and we were more ready than ever. As tensions were high and blood was pumping, we were still ready to execute the game plan. St. Joseph Prep was kicking off to Carroll to start off the game. With the strong start we had, this gave us motivation to beat this team. As the game went on, Prep started to put more points on the scoreboard, which ended up putting Prep in the lead at  halftime. When halftime was over, we knew we had to come out strong and play as a team and we did exactly that. At the end of the fourth quarter,  Archbishop Carroll was in the lead with the score 21-20. We were able to run down the clock against Prep and end up coming out with a victory just as planned.
