My favorite memory at Archbishop Carroll is when I was a freshman and I ran for student council. During the election, when I was running, I honestly did not think I was going to win because I was so new to the school and didn’t know many people. The election was held at the beginning of the school year, which made it even harder for me to get my fellow classmates to vote for me.

 I remember making posters and hanging them all around the school. My support system at home and at school was very strong, which made it even easier for me to have pride in myself. 

Friday came and it was election day.I remember feeling nervous and scared but also excited,  wondering whether anyone voted for me and whether I would be a 2020 class representative.

It was 8th period, which was time to make the exciting announcement; there was a drum roll and they called two other names before mine. Once I heard “Naa’ilah Shabazz,” I filled up with joy inside, excited to tell my friends and parents. When I got home from school I jumped into my parents arms and told them I won the election. From that day forward I was a leader at Carroll and will continue to be as I embark on my new journey. 

Thank you Archbishop John Carroll, for all that you have done for me. It has truly been a blessing.
