The Archbishop Carroll girl’s tennis team honored their nine seniors and experienced a big win against Archbishop Wood, 4-1, on September 30.

Laura Wallon, Gianna Gentile, Katie Koroly, Molly Patzuk, Danielle Esssen, Mary Finley, Maureen Carpenter, Sadie Salas, and Ally Frederick were surprised with balloons and posters at Valley Forge Military Academy, where Carroll’s home courts are. The underclassman made posters and gift baskets for all of the nine seniors. Some of the underclassman’ parents decorated the tennis courts with red and black balloons for the festivities.

“It’s been such a wonderful joy to see my friends grow as … individuals and tennis players,” said Wallon.

Senior parents came to support their daughters on this special night and watch them play. Pictures were taken of the girls with their parents. Parents and players were provided with food and drinks by the coaches and underclassman’ parents.

“The girls on the tennis team are so supportive of each other and funny… they’re good people to be around,” said Carpenter.

Additionally, Principal Mr. William Gennaro and Athletic Director Mr. Tom Quintos came to the match to support their seniors.

The underclassmen, who helped put this night together, were also there to support their teammates, take pictures, and watch the matches.

“It is beautiful seeing …  [the seniors] mature as humans and as tennis players,” said sophomore McKayla Elison.

Before the matches began, the underclassman held up their rackets for the seniors to run under. While the seniors ran under the tunnel, their names were announced by Mr. Quintos. They took pictures with their parents and Mr. Gennaro. Afterwards they received a gift basket from an underclassman.

“[The seniors] have taught me a lot and I am going to miss them,” said sophomore Rose Procaccini.

After the celebration was over, the matches began. The final scores of the matches are as follows:

1st singles: Mary Finley lost to Claire Carrie 1-6,1-6.
