Juniors get ready for a roaring good time at the prom

Juniors are getting reading for Saturday night’s junior prom, which returns to Archbishop Carroll’s East Gym after a two-year hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The junior prom theme this year is the Roaring Twenties/The Great Gatsby. This theme is fitting because juniors take American history, where they learn — among other things — about life in the 1920s; and English, where they are studying F. Scott Fitzgerald’s famous novel about the Lost Generation as part of their American literature curriculum.

“I am excited about the theme,” said junior Caroline Pascual. “It’s interesting because The Great Gatsby is currently what [Mrs. Young’s honors] English classes are reading.”

Most juniors are anticipating their first prom at Carroll with their classmates.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said junior Damon Cagliola. “I am getting my suit soon and flowers as well.”

Other students are just happy to be able to finally attend regular school events after months of lockdown and restrictions because of Covid-19.

“I feel like it will be fun to have the dances back this year because last year we couldn’t have school-wide dances and proms,” said junior Michayla Amalfitano.

After two years without a junior prom, some of the students at Archbishop Carroll are not feeling the joy and anticipation they hoped they would feel.

“I feel like I should be excited, but I’m not,” said junior Erin Egan.

Most students are looking forward to their prom preparations to get more in the mood.

“I’m getting my nails, makeup, and hair done,” said junior Stephanie Reardon. “I also have my dress.”

In addition to a night set during the Roaring Twenties, juniors will receive a prom T-shirt. These are black shirts with a gold Great Gatsby theme that says ‘ACHS Junior Prom 2022’.
