Archbishop Carroll Theater Society has open applications for the International Thespian Society for the 2023-2024 school year.

The International Thespian Society is an honor society that recognizes middle and high school students who participate in theater productions.

“It’s a really wonderful organization,” said senior Sofia Cunicelli. “It allows students to show all the work that you do on and off the stage.”

ITS uses a point system to decide eligibility. For example, holding a major role in an ACTS production is worth eight points. Performing in a minor role is worth five points. Being in the ensemble or performing as a dancer is worth three points. Points also are awarded for being part of the stage crew, costume crew, and pit orchestra. Even attending a theatrical performance of any sort earns a half point. Interested students must have at least 10 points to be considered. Five of those points must be earned within Archbishop Carroll. Students with 60 points or above are eligible for Honor Thespian status.  The point chart is on the application.

ITS also considers a student’s academic achievement, leadership, service and character in the selection process.

The application form is https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdF8QUCikthzcUUekH_HedgoGoc7UBlY6XlnDXtKP6sY6uOJg/viewform. Applications are due March 22.

The introduction fee is $35. The induction ceremony will take place during one of the intermissions of “The Little Mermaid.”

“All of the cast and crew come out to support our friends getting inducted,” said senior Kirstin Blake McGarvey. “It’s a really nice ceremony and shows how dedicated people are to theater.”

Junior Sofia Palumbi agreed.

“A lot of my friends are involved and it is the one time during the shows that I get to see them on the stage getting the praise they deserve,” Palumbi said.
