After a postponement related to a scheduling issue, Archbishop Carroll’s concert band, jazz band, choir, and mixed select chorus performed their annual Christmas concert on Jan. 15 before an audience of nearly 100.
The concert began with the mixed select choir singing “A Celtic Silent Night” and “Breath of Heaven.”
Next, Carroll’s standard band performed four songs: “Merry Gentlemen,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
Following each song, Carroll’s auditorium rang with applause from the family members, friends, and supporters of the musicians.
The jazz band performed the songs “Mambo Natural,” “Blue Train,” and “25 or 6 to 4.”
Junior percussionist Nathaniel Folarin said “Blue Train” was his favorite song.
“Good song,” Folarin said. “Fun to play. Solos were good.”
Finally, all band and choir members amalgamated to perform a mix of Christmas songs in the arrangement “Christmas Finale.”
Concert and jazz band director Jeffrey Darrohn gave the concert a good review.
“I think that (concert) has to be our best one yet, guys,” Mr. Darrohn said.
Junior saxophonist Brandon Rivera had good things to say about the concert, too.
“Everyone had an opportunity to thrive,” Rivera said. “There were song selections that we performed amazingly.”
