The Archbishop Carroll Theater Society just wrapped up its fall show: “The Hunchback of Notre Dame. ” One of its bigger fall productions, the show had been a work in progress since the end of this past summer.
The show followed a young man from Notre Dame with a permanent hunchback, Quasimodo (played by junior Brian Garwood), and his journey to falling in love with a new gypsy dancer in the area, Esmerelda (played by senior Sofia Biddle). It is a story of love and loss, and famously asks a question that has been pondered for years: what makes a monster, and what makes a man?
The auditorium was packed every single night with teachers, parents, family, and friends. There were also a lot of familiar faces taking the stage in this show, playing many of the leading roles.
Junior Dylan Attas, who played Captain Phoebus de Martin, had good things to say about the show.
“I think the show went well,” Attas stated. “I know a lot of the audience was impressed and enjoyed the show. I think we really pulled through.”
Senior Emmie Menna, who played both a gypsy and congregant, also said she thought the production succeeded.
“I think the fall show went extremely well,” Menna said. “It was something different, unique, and definitely more difficult than anything we’ve done before, but, like our director Meg McNamara said, ‘It’s possible to do hard things,’ and the final product really showed that.”
On closing night, Mr. Ronald Cummings, who teaches chemistry and engineering, made his usual cameo in the show by “serving” DoorDash to the king. His cameo in this scene was a surprise to the audience, and got a lot of laughs.
Despite the show wrapping, ACTS is staying busy. The spring show, “High School Musical,” was announced in the Playbill, and students are beginning to prepare for their auditions in the new year.
