On Monday, Archbishop Carroll High School held its annual Career Day.
Alumni, parents, and friends of Carroll visited to speak with students about their careers. The event, sponsored by the school’s National Honor Society chapter, featured speakers a variety of jobs, including nurse, flight attendant, engineer, service member, teacher, and journalist.
The students started their day in the auditorium listening to Jay Curry, an employee at Microsoft, share his career journey and present advice.
Later, students listened to speakers talk about their careers during each class period. Generally, the person speaking worked in a career related to the subject matter of the class.
“My favorite career was the nurse who came in for my bio class,” said Brie Urbanski, a freshman. “My favorite quote from him was, ‘If someone gets shot in the stomach, I’m your guy.’ “He definitely inspired me the most with how, when he found out I wanted to be a neurosurgeon, he included me by asking questions and showing me how to put on sterile gloves.”
Students enjoyed the talks, and also appreciated the slower-paced day.
“My favorite speaker was probably the flight attendant in our 5th period class! I also really enjoyed today and think it was a good rest day before break!” freshman Bella Serwinski said.
