Students cheer the Archbishop Carroll varsity girls basketball team as it makes its way to the bus that will take it to the state championship.

The Archbishop Carroll varsity girls basketball team will fight tonight for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association 6A state championship at the Giant Center in Hershey at 6 p.m.

To mark the occasion, students lined the halls at the beginning of 7th period Friday to cheer on the girls as they made their way out the building’s back door to the team bus. Many students held up signs they had made earlier in expectation of the quick celebration. Others waved red-and-white pom-poms and clapped and cheered.

Students also had a dress down day Friday in recognition of the team’s accomplishment.

The team punched its ticket to tonight’s game by defeating Cardinal O’Hara in Monday’s semifinal match. The win came as a result of senior Taylor Wilson making two foul shots in the final seconds.
