The Archbishop Carroll’s girls lacrosse team conquered one of their biggest opponents, beating Owen J. Roberts by a score of 8-6.

On April 11 the girls faced OJR at home in an extremely competitive game. The score was kept close for the entire first half. The girls went into halftime tied, with the score at 5-5.

OJR was a previously undefeated team and was ranked number one in Pennsylvania, according to PhillyLacrosse.

“We knew we wanted to win so we really pushed each other in practice and focused on playing our game,” said senior captain Ava Bleckley.

Bleckley led the team with three goals and senior Lainey Straub followed with two. Juniors Chloe Bleckley and Samantha Hewitt and senior Caitlin McConaghy each had one.

“We knew we had a real shot at winning this game,” said Straub. “Once the game started everyone had great energy and then everything came together. We were able to find the shots and the defense was able to keep them from scoring.”

Halfway into the second half of the game senior Mary Matey went down with an anterior cruciate ligament injury,  causing the defense to readjust.

“Our defense is really good and, while Mary is a crucial part of our team, I think she will still be a major component even from the sideline,” said goalie Bridget Robinson, a senior.
