The Met Gala took place on Monday May 1 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s theme was in celebration of the iconic designer Karl Lagerfeld.

Lagerfeld had a very impressive career in the fashion industry, but he was most known for holding the position as creative director of Chanel from 1983 until his death in 2019. Many celebrities honored Lagerfeld with recreations of his old designs, or with Chanel-inspired looks.

The Met Gala is an annual event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City to benefit the galleries and raise money for the museum. It is always on the first Monday in May, and is known for bringing out all kinds of people. Celebrities travel from all over and spend countless hours perfecting their look to make sure that they are perfectly on theme.

As seen in Vogue, celebrities such as Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway and Donatella Versace were all in attendance at the Met Gala, and dressed to impress.

“I was really impressed with Anne Hathaway’s outfit,” said junior Beth Wineburg. “She was perfectly on theme. I never really thought she was big in fashion, but this changed my mind.”

As always, Vogue editor Anna Wintour hosted this glamorous event and was assisted by co-chairs actor Penélope Cruz, actor Michaela Coel, tennis player Roger Federer, and singer Dua Lipa, according to the New York Times. Lipa wore a gorgeous dress inspired by one of Lagerfeld’s designs for Chanel that was worn by model Claudia Schiffer in Chanel’s couture runway show in the fall of 1992, according to Vogue Magazine.

Overall, compared to previous Met Galas, this year the attendees managed to stay on theme with their looks and receive high compliments from spectators.
