Dear Carroll Community, On behalf of the Archbishop Carroll High School administration, I join with other members of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and express my profound sadness in the news of the passing of Pope Francis this morning, April 21, 2025. His papacy was marked by compassion, humility, and a steadfast commitment to social justice. For me, Pope Francis represented a genuine kindness and love for humanity. Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis was the first Jesuit and the first Latin American to lead the Catholic Church. Pope Francis promoted inclusivity and encouraged the Church to listen and engage with its members, famously stating, “A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just.” He lived this message daily, advocating for the poor and those in need and fostering interfaith dialogue. His faithful actions and kind interactions with everyone exemplified his dedication to hope, unity and peace. Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez reflected on Pope Francis’s legacy, stating, “He constantly reminded us of the importance of serving the poor, always standing with those who faced persecution and hardship.” Archbishop Pérez’s full letter can be found here. As we mourn this great loss, let us honor Pope Francis’ memory by living his values of compassion, humility, and service to others. Fondly, |
