The Archbishop Carroll girls basketball team took down Central Bucks East of Bucks County, 51-33, on Day One and Conestoga, 55-25, on Day Two of the Cardinal O’Hara Holiday Showcase, played in Springfield right after the Christmas holiday. The two-day tournament spotlights some of the area’s top programs.
Villanova commit Alexis Eberz scored a total of 34 points over two games.
“I’m just trying to do what I need to do for my team to get this win,” said Alexis Eberz. “We had two big wins this tournament, which is huge for our record.”
The Holiday Showcase spotlights some of the area’s top programs, and that has drawn the Patriots back to the tournament year in and year out.
“I think its a good tournament,” said Head Coach Renie Shields. “The competition’s always good, and it’s a really well run tournament.”
The Patriots’ commanding victory against CB East was led by Alexis Eberz, who had 16 points and 17 rebounds.
The Lady Pats kicked off Day Two against Conestoga shooting lights out, with Kayla Eberz rattling home a pair of triples along with Abbie McFillin piling on five points in Quarter 1. Carroll’s defense and intensity was too much for Conestoga to handle, giving the Pats the upper edge in the first quarter.
In Quarter 2, things really picked up for Alexis Eberz, who scored a total of 34 points over two games. Eberz scored all but five of Carroll’s 16 second quarter points, pairing up with the Pats defense to hold Conestoga to five second quarter points, making the score 31-14 heading into the halftime break.
The Carroll starters took their foot off of the pedal just a little bit in the third, with three balls from both Alexis and Kayla Eberz paired with freshman Haley Clark’s two-point basket that got the bench riled up. Carroll led 41-19 heading into the final frame of action.
Coach Shields opted to keep her starters in for a few more minutes, ultimately allowing Kayla Eberz to rack up her 17th point of the game before she decided to give the starters a rest. Coach Shields had already emptied out a majority of the bench, plugging in junior guard Liv Hermanovich along with freshmen Clark, Camryn Hannon, and Lori Attas. The only other points in the fourth quarter for the Pats prior to the subs were two triples from Bridget Grant and Evie Lawrence. Those six points were not the final buckets of the night for the Lady Pats: instead, Attas drove the lane and knocked down a floater for her first varsity bucket of the game.
